What the Heck is COALT?

Posted on April 1st, 2006 by Robin

COALT is quite possibly the most significant achievement to be accomplished for Connecticut motorized recreationists thus far. COALT, Connecticut Open Access Land Trust, is a collaboration of all of Connecticut’s fullsize 4×4 clubs. And if you’ve been around for any length of time you know this is quite an accomplishment. And you know what? We’re not so different after all. We’re wheelers, we’re advocates, we love nature.

We all care about the sport and presenting a positive public image. We ride responsibly and legally. We Tread Lightly! We love our families and want to preserve the sport as well as the environment for our children. Our personality differences seem petty compared to our similarities don’t they?

COALT is open to all forms of motorized recreation and we invite ATV, dirt bike and snowmobile enthusiasts to join us as well as fullsize 4x4s. COALT is still in its infancy and needs YOU to help it grow. Join in the conversation at our Forums.

What’s next for COALT? We’re reaching out to all motorized trail users regardless of club affiliation. If you are unaffiliated or don’t like the club atmosphere, COALT can offer you multiple opportunities to contribute towards the preservation of motorized recreation. In June, we’re electing officers. Next comes incorporation and then 501(c)(3) designation. In between we’ll develop bylaws, do a membership drive, and hold fund raising events.

Join us for the next grassroots movement – suitable public land for motorized recreation in Connecticut!
